Colette Beckham - Garden Designer Extraordinaire
I am a passionate garden designer and environmental professional based in Newquay, Cornwall. 20 years of landscape, ecological and countryside management experience, combined with years of horticultural knowledge and a natural creative flair makes me an ideal designer of sustainable spaces. I run my own environment and landscape consultancy called ‘Gain’ and offer garden design as all part of the service.
I have a deep understanding of sustainability issues, biodiversity, land management, heritage and landscape. I know what gives a garden its genus loci - its sense of place, and bring I this understanding through. My gardens rest effortlessly in their landscape, whilst delivering on both the practical and aesthetic. I understand the needs of wildlife and the intricacies of native habitats and can bring a little bit of nature into any garden, rural or urban.
I was practically raised on allotments, by my dad and grandad. I still can remember the 'tomato feed' smell of the allotment shop when I was a girl. I've always grown my own food and have masses of hands on, practical experience of how to grow your own, from planning a large traditional Cornish orchard - to growing on a windowsill. My creative side extends out of the garden and into weddings. I can turn locally grown flowers into amazing arrangements and add vintage touches to make your big day even more special!
With a degree in Biology and Environmental Studies and trained in Horticulture with Duchy College, Cornwall, I have a great understanding of environment, horticulture and design principles applied with great effect to my gardens.
